Dr. Tasrina Rabia Choudhury has been working in Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) since 11 October 2006 to date. Now she is working as Principal Scientific Officer and Technical Manager of Analytical Chemistry Laboratory (ISO/IEC 17025:2017 Certified) in Chemistry Division, Atomic Energy Centre, Dhaka, Bangladesh. She has been completed her BSc (Hons), MS, and Ph.D. from the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Dhaka University. She has established a laboratory for analysis of trace and toxic metals which is accredited for water, fish, fish feed, milk, etc. She is working on the development, validation, and accreditation of methodologies for the analysis of major, minor, trace, and toxic heavy metals in different environmental, biological, food, and water samples for environmental pollution monitoring and the impact of these elements on humans health and diseases. She also develops methods for the remediation of pollution from the environment. Her major research activities focus on Environmental Toxicology, Pollution, and Health. She has a good number of research papers, books, book chapters, etc. Dr. Tasrina has teaching involvement and also supervised many students from different universities.
Dr. Tasrina has extensive international research and development experience obtained at Hirosaki University, Japan (2015-2016), Champs-sur-Marne in France(2012), IAEA Marine Environmental Laboratories in Monaco(2014), IAEA program in Beijing, China (2010), Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) Mumbai India (2017), Otago University in Dunedin, Newzealand (2018), Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India(2018), ANSTO, Sydney, Australia(2019), Manila, Philippines(2020). She works in many international projects with IAEA, World Bank, Unido, etc. Dr. Tasrina is a member of The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World(OWSD), Young Affiliate of The World Academy of Sciences(TWAS), Bangladesh Women Scientists Association, Bangladesh Association for Advancement of Science (BAAS), Bangladesh Chemical Society (BCS); Bangladesh Atomic Energy Scientists Association (BAESA), Annesha Science Society, Network of Instrument Technical personnel and User scientists of Bangladesh (NITUB). Dr. Tasrina is a Lead and Technical assessor of the Bangladesh Accreditation Board and assessed many testing laboratories based on ISO/IEC 17025 in Bangladesh.
She achieved both national and international awards. She awarded the President’s Young Scientist Award (first prize) of the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA), 2018, and the BAS Gold Medal Award in Physical Sciences group in 2018 from the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences. Applauded TWAS young affiliate ship for the years of 2019 to 2023 from the World Academy of Sciences. Recently she achieved the “Inspiring Women Award - 2021” in the category of “Inspiring Women in Science” at the Women in Leadership Festival (WIL Fest), Bangladesh. She has been nominated and selected for ISAT 2021 Award in the Research Category in the International Scientist Awards on Engineering, Science, and Medicine, India. She obtained three times fellowship from the ministry of science and technology, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh (NST fellowships in 2010-11(No: 39.012.002.01.30.014.2010-93(101), NST fellowships in 2011-12 (39.012.002.01.03.015.2011-363(105) and NST fellowships in 2012-13(39.012.002.01.03.018.2012-13).
