Tânia Cova completed the degree in Industrial Chemistry from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology at the University of Coimbra in 2009. She obtained a Master degree in Chemistry in 2011 at the same University, specialized in Quality Control and Environment. In 2018, she obtained a Doctorate degree from the University of Coimbra in Chemistry, specialized in Macromolecular Chemistry, with several contributions in the areas of supramolecular and computational chemistry, and data science. She has developed systematic modeling approaches for understanding the factors that govern the formation of supramolecular nanostructures for drug delivery, resorting to atomistic simulations and free-energy calculations. The main topics gathered different aspects in quantifying host-guest binding, but her research interests include also (i) the design of coarse-grained models of polyelectrolyte systems and polymer networks for drug delivery and contaminant removal in environmental matrices, and (ii) the development of modern data science tools for multicomponent systems and multivariate bio/chemical/environmental data.
She was team member of the PTDC/MHC-CED/2658/2014 project, which aimed to develop nanomedicines as a therapeutic alternative in the treatment of glioblastoma. She has performed computational studies of polyelectrolyte arrangements, including DNA-origami type and aptamer-containing chains, and also aptamer- and peptide-carbohydrate conjugates as a new strategy to Improve drug recognition and tumor targeting.
The main contributions are included in 1 book edition, 3 book chapters, 38 scientific articles, 1 international patent (PCT/IB2020/061452), 1 manual, 2 special issue editions as Guest Editor, 22 oral communications in scientific conferences, 18 conference posters, 4 event organizations, and other ad hoc missions for knowledge transfer directed to undergraduate students. She has received 6 awards and/or honors. She lectured courses in Chemometrics and Pattern Recognition and Statistical and Multivariate Analysis in R, with 8 completed editions since 2015, at the University of Coimbra, and (co)supervised MSc and BSc theses. She has also been involved as a jury member, in the organization of international meetings, and in several outreach activities for knowledge transfer directed to undergraduate students.
