He became a professor at 34. Professor of the old school, a so-called “fullmaktsprofessor” (Swedish), at a time when professors were still few, before the so called “Befordransreformen”, The Promotion Reform (see foot note) in the 90´s. And today he´s one of the last ones of his kind at the Faculty of Medicine.
— The debate about the implementation of the reform was sometimes fierce at the faculty board of which I was a member. I foresaw the title inflation that prevails, a reduced tendency for researchers to move around, change environments, which is key to research. But the chance to make a quick career and get a permanent job as a professor increases if you stay put.
