Thomas' research is focussed on the diversity, ecology and evolution of Phytophthora, Nothophytophthora and Halophytophthora species, their impacts on natural and semi-natural ecosystems, their pathways and management and control options for Phytophthora diseases. Thomas published 84 papers in peer review journals. His current h index at Scopus is 35, with 4339 citations.
