We focus on the role of the microenvironment (mainly hypoxia and inflammation) and of metabolic alterations for tumor progression. Solid tumors of the digestive tract are our main interest. The translational aspect of our work is represented by analyses of therapy resistance and of tumor-specific metabolic alterations as diagnostic tools.

I am a specialist for Internal and Nutrition Medicine and a University Professor for Molecular Tumor Biology. The role of dietary carbohydrate restriction for various non-communicable diseases -- fatty liver, polycystic ovary syndrome, arterial hypertension, chronic inflammatory diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis) and cancer -- is of great interest to me both clinically and scientifically. I have over 10 years of experience recommending "low-carb high fat" diets to patients with the above named diseases.
