He provides advice to several national and international organizations and funding agencies. Dr. Sambhara is an elected Foreign Fellow of Indian National Academy of Sciences. He was a section head Immunology at Sanofi Pasteur, Toronto from 1992-2000 and moved to CDC in 2000 to start immunology program in influenza. The primary focus of his research is innate immunity, viral immunology, and vaccine development to investigate host responses to influenza infection and vaccination in different populations and appropriate animal models using state-of-the-art immunological, virological, biochemical, proteomic, and molecular tools and multiomic analytical approaches to improve and develop next-generation vaccines and antiviral strategies. He trained over 65 graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, scientists, and student interns since 2000 and published over 125 peer reviewed research publications, commentaries and several book chapters with a H Index of 46 and holds 9 patents.
