RESEARCH INTERESTS:
➢ GPCR-Drug Discovery: Adenosine Receptors (ARs), Allosteric modulators, P2Y1-receptor, and imaging agents for the ARs.
➢ Development of novel synthetic methodologies towards organic compounds
➢ Synthesis and biological properties of novel small molecules and organophosphorus compounds
My goal is to build a career in Medicinal Chemistry. I’ve been involved with organic synthesis for the past fifteen years. As a graduate student at the University of Hyderabad, I worked on many synthetic methodology projects. I gained extensive experience in developing organophosphorus chemistry and palladium-catalyzed reactions targeting C-C and C-heteroatom bond formations. After receiving my Ph. D. in 2012, I then worked as a medicinal chemist postdoctoral researcher for four years at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel. My postdoctoral work focused on the design and synthesis of novel inhibitors for cancer-promoting extracellular zinc-enzymes like Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs), Autotaxin (ATX), and Carbonic Anhydrases (CAs).
I recently joined as a visiting fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Maryland, USA. My research at NIDDK focuses on synthesizing nucleoside and nonnucleoside-based subtype-selective agonists and antagonists for GPCRs and developing them as drugs for chronic diseases. My education and experiences have evolved into a sound knowledge of medicinal chemistry and the application of organic synthesis, molecular and cell biology, and pharmacological principles to solve problems.
