On returning to CSIRO in early 2002 his focus has been on investigating the effectiveness of methane abatement strategies by understanding the variations in microbial population structure and functions in ruminant species and drawing parallels with other low methane gut systems. Dr Denman is currently working with Industry and researchers, investigating ways to optimise these strategies and produce energy gains to animals in the extensive grazing systems of northern Australia. Similar methodologies are also being turned towards understanding the contribution of the microbiome to rumen efficiency and the role of maternal nutrition on offspring for early life intervention in the rumen. Dr Denman leads the animal productivity area within CSIRO’s Microbiome Future Science Platform that is investigating the connectivity between the host animal and the microbiome.
Dr Denman has published more than 100 peer reviewed publications including book chapters and invited reviews with over 9500 citations an H index of 47. He has also presented over 100 conference publications and presented invited papers at international conferences and workshops.
