Bio
He is a world-leading microscopist, a pioneer of scanning transmission electron microscopy, and laid the foundation of both theoretical and experimental modern microscopy. His contributions to the development of the Z-contrast technique for incoherent imaging of materials at atomic resolution and leadership in developing sub-Angstrom resolution aberration-corrected electron microscopy led to the first images of single atoms of boron, carbon, nitrogen and oxygen.
