Career Summary:
A/Prof. Bowe is an Associate Professor of Biostatistics in Te Kura Tātai Hauora—The School of Health, Victoria University of Wellington , New Zealand.
Steve’s role as Associate Professor of Biostatistics is to lead the development and delivery of Biostatistics courses, seek external research funding, contribute to the development of the School, Faculty and Division’s wider academic and strategic direction and planning, alongside playing an active role in developing programmes and enhancing our collaboration with other Te Herenga Waka Faculties as well as stakeholder engagement.
Steve has been an Associate Professor of Biostatistics, Biostatistics Consultant and Meta-Analyst with the Faculty of Health's Biostatistics Unit at Deakin University since January 2020 after a 5 year tenure as a Senior Research Fellow in the same Biostatistics Unit.
Steve has expertise in Applied Biostatistics through the completion of his PhD, alongside specialised knowledge in Medical Statistics, having completed his Masters and a Graduate Diploma.
Steve also has experience as an undergraduate and postgraduate Senior Lecturer of Applied Statistics and has over 18 years experience in methodological areas such as: meta-analyses, longitudinal research designs and many analytic strategies.
He has conducted numerous biostatistics workshops on a range of topics from generalised linear mixed modelling to network meta-analysis for Deakin early career researchers and PhD students as well as supervising PhD and Honours students in the School of Medicine, Public Health and Exercise and Nutrition sciences, School of Psychology and Statistics and providing statistical support to early career researchers.
Prior to Deakin University he was a senior lecturer of applied statistics at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne and previously worked as a Senior Research Fellow (biostatistician) at the Centre for Behavioural Research in Cancer (CBRC) at The Cancer Council Victoria (2010-11). Before moving to Melbourne in 2010, he taught postgraduate biostatistics at the Centre of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Newcastle whilst completing his PhD.
Areas of statistical analysis expertise:
Generalised Estimating Equations, linear mixed effects modelling, multilevel models, network meta analysis, complex survey data, survival analysis, interrupted time series analysis, generalised structural equations modelling and Bayesian statistical inference. He also has extensive experience with statistical software such as: Stata, R, SAS, SPSS and Mplus.
