Research Interests:
theoretical and computational research on nanophotonics and quantum optics; photonic crystals, cavity-QED, quantum nonlinear optics, open-system quantum optics, computational electromagnetics, optomechanics, metamaterials and quantum plasmonics
Dr. Hughes has authored or co-authored hundreds of peer reviewed scientific articles in the premier physics and optics journals. Research honors include an Ontario Early Research Award, a CFI Leaders Opportunity Award, a Queen’s Chancellor’s Research Award, member of the CIFAR (Canadian Institute for Advanced Research) Nanoelectronics program, a Queen’s Prize for Excellence in Research (2014), an NSERC Discovery Accelerator Award (2015), CFI Innovation Fund (2017), and a Humboldt Research Award (2018). Dr. Hughes is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (IOP) in the UK, and a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA).
