Dr. Stephanie Zandee started her scientific career at the Radboud University Nijmegen (The Netherlands), where she obtained her Bachelor in Molecular Life Sciences and a Master’s degree in Molecular Mechanisms of Disease. During her Master’s research internships, she became interested in Multiple Sclerosis (MS). She moved to the University of Edinburgh (Scotland) to carry out a PhD in the labs of Dr. Stephen Anderton and Dr. Anna Williams, focusing on the role of regulatory T cells (Treg) in MS pathology. Her PhD work was amongst the first to describe the presence of Treg in brain lesions of MS patients. After the completion of her PhD, Dr. Zandee moved to the lab of Dr. Alexandre Prat at the CrCHUM in Montreal (Canada) where she is continuing her research on regulatory T cells, investigating the mechanisms by which these cells cross the blood-brain barrier into the brain. Her work aims to explore new avenues of using Treg as potential therapy in MS in the future. In addition, Dr. Zandee has a particular interest in the evolution of MS lesion pathology, she has been extensively trained in MS neuropathology and is currently coordinating the Prat lab brain bank. She has received funding from the Dutch MS research society, the University of Edinburgh, the MS society of Canada, the FRQS, the NMSS and Biogen.
