I am currently working as a Principal Investigator at Ariel University. I am head of the scientific laboratory in the molecular biology department. I am a lecturer. During my career, I have searched and gained a lot of experience in various fields of biotechnology. I have developed independent research in the epigenetic field. I have had the opportunity to teach and work in collaboration with different research groups in Israel.
I did a Ph.D. study in the Neurobiology Department, Weizmann Institute, Israel. I have studied post-transcriptional mechanisms regulating the expression of the MAPT genes involved in neuronal differentiation that contributed to understanding their role in Alzheimer’s disease.
Later on in Postdoc study in the laboratory in Genetic Department, Weizmann Institute, I applied my knowledge to yeast genetics. I investigated mRNA trafficking in the yeast system. Succinctly I examined whether components of the secretory pathway play a role in asymmetric mRNA localization in budding yeast. Specifically, my knowledge and experiences related to the understanding of epigenetic gene regulation in low and high eukaryotes.
In Ariel University as a principle investigator, I have developed research related to:
1. Understanding gene-expressing regulation on the post-transcriptional level in yeast.
Gene expression regulation in budding and mating yeast:
-Identification factors and regulatory elements play a role in epigenetics regulation
-Development of ecologically and biotechnology potent yeast modified strains
2. The role of noncoding RNAs in epigenetic regulation in human normal and cancer cell lines.
3. One of the current projects of my lab is developing diagnostic biomarkers for early detection and relapse of hematological malignancies. This project is conducted in collaboration together with Assuta Hospital. This project is based on epigenetic regulation by non-coding RNAs.We are discovering new diagnostic biomarkers for early detection, treatment efficacy, and relapse of hematological malignancies.
4. One of my collaborator project was done with Professor Gellerman, scientists from Chemical department at Ariel University and Teva Company. He synthesized novel small molecules belong to 9 –anilinoacridines, this group of small molecule known as DNA intercalating agents and also as an inhibitor of DNA and RNAs polymerase enzymes (PCT 2011/051950A1). In my laboratory was done an intensive screening of the 17 new 9-AA components on 7 distinct human cancer cell lines. We have discovered a few effective components, with anticancer properties for several cancer cell types. This work now is under investigation on cancer mice models.
