个人简介
Spencer is an undergraduate alumnus of West Virginia University, where he graduated in May of 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in the field of Immunology and Medical Microbiology. Spencer is currently enrolled as a student of WVU's Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. program, where he is emphasizing in Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis under the mentorship of Dr. Mariette Barbier.
Spencer's former work saw him as a Research Lab Technician in the lab of Dr. Barbier Microbiology, Immunology, and Cell Biology Department of West Virginia University. The Barbier laboratory studies vaccine development and therapeutic design for clinically relevant pathogens, such as Bordetella pertussis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Borrelia burgdorferi. Through this role, Spencer is proficient at handling of mice, as well as bacterial infection, blood collection, vaccination, and euthanization of these animals. His tasks included performing ELISA and PCR protocols and bacterial culture of BSL-2 level pathogens. Spencer's current project details the identification of small antimicrobial compounds against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and other ESKAPE pathogens for future therapeutic use in a clinical setting.
