Bio
Doctor Sophie Dixneuf is a senior research scientist at BIOASTER Lyon, France, in the Bioassays, Microsystems & Optical Engineering Unit of BIOASTER. She obtained her PhD in Physics (2006) at the University of Angers, France, where she specialized in atmospheric spectroscopy, studying in particular the fundamental structure of collision-induced inter-molecular or inter-atomic properties through Raman spectroscopy. She later joined the Laser Spectroscopy Group at the Physics department of University College Cork, Ireland (2007-2013). Recipient of a postdoctoral Marie-Curie fellowship, she developed and implemented high sensitivity and high spatial resolution spectroscopic instruments aiming at the multiplex detection of traces of gas (nitrogen oxides, iodine and VOCs) playing a key role in the photo-chemistry of the troposphere, potentially impacting air-quality, Earth radiative balance and climate. Dr Dixneuf was also hosted (2010-2011) at Forschungszentrum Julïch, Germany, where she designed and set up a 20 m long open-path instrument at the large reaction chamber SAPHIR. Eager to apply her expertise to health-related topics, Dr Sophie Dixneuf joined the Diagnostic Unit of BIOASTER in 2014 in order to investigate advanced optical approaches for phenotypic, ultra-fast (growth-free) and label-free microbiological diagnosis. For that purpose, technologies such as micro-Raman spectroscopy and holographic imaging are optimized to the sensitivity and specificity down to the single (bacteria) cell. In 2018 she joined the newly formed Bioassays, Microsystems & Optical Engineering Unit of BIOASTER, and diversified applications of label-free optical technology and microfluidics to Antimicrobial, Vaccin development, or microbiota applications.
