Bio
I introduce myself as Prof. Somaditya Sen, an experimental Condensed Mateer Physicist in the Physics department at the Indian Institute of Technology Indore, with interests in Material Science, Electronics, Communications, and Biomaterials related to Oxide Materials.
I am a professor in the Department of Physics as a Professor since 8th May 2023. I joined the department as an Associate Professor in Oct 2013. Before that, I was serving IIT Indore as a visiting Associate professor in the Center for Surface Sciences and Engg. from Feb 2013. At IIT Indore I have served as a member of the Board of Governors member and as Associate and Officiating Dean of Planning for the initial phase of the institute when the same was going through the toughest time of transferring the temporary campus to the permanent one. Presently I am also a consultant physicist at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. From Sept 2017 to Sept 2020 I served as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Ming Chi University of Technology in Taiwan.
I work on structure-correlated physical, optoelectronic, energy, and electrochemical properties of magnetic and nonmagnetic oxide semiconductors. Bulk and thin-film samples are prepared of extremely chemically homogeneous doped and co-doped simple and complex (perovskite/double perovskite) oxides. The prime thrust is to analyze the structure of chemically modified compositions using XRD followed by a Rietveld refinement of the XRD data. Vibrational properties are studied thereafter to correlate the structural changes to the lattice strain and other subtle changes in the materials. The electronic properties like bandgap, lattice deformation, defect levels, transport properties, carrier properties, etc. are studied. Different applicabilities of these materials are investigated, including ferroelectricity, dielectric properties, transport properties, electrochemistry, photocatalysis, photosensitivity, chemo-sensitivity properties, etc. A new look of utilizing some high dielectric constant materials with low losses is being investigated in the light of dielectric resonator antennas.
Single-phase materials are a major criterion of my research which are electrical (conductivity, dielectric, ferroelectric, piezoelectric, thermoelectric, sensitivity, etc.), optoelectronic (bandgap, defects, band-tailoring, etc.), mechanical, and many more aspects are investigated.
My collaborators are in the USA, France, China, Taiwan, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and India.
