Bio
Simone Morais has a Ph.D. (1998) in Chemical Engineering from the faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and the Habilitation in Chemical and Biological Engineering (2022). She is Associate Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Engineering at Porto, Portugal (ISEP), where she teaches several courses of the Chemical Engineering degree (1st cycle), Bioresources degree (1st cycle) and of the Master in Bioresources- (Bio)Technologies for Circular Economy. Since its creation and accreditation in 2018, she is the Coordinator of the Master Program in Bioresources, and from 2010 to 2020, she was the Coordinator of the Chemistry and Biology Laboratory of the Chemical Engineering Department. She is a member of the Scientific Council of ISEP.
She develops her research activity at the Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry of the Network of Chemistry and Technology (REQUIMTE) in the fields of environmental sciences, monitoring pollutants and human biomonitoring, sensors and biosensors, green technologies, and circular economy. She has been collaborating with several institutions, national and international, of Higher Education and Research & Development centers having (co) supervised several industrial Internships, MSc, PhD and post-doctoral students. She has been acting as reviewer for top-ranked journals in her areas of expertise, and for international funding agencies (EU, Swiss National Science Foundation, etc.). She has been participating in funded projects: coordinator of 5 national/international competitively financed projects, research member of 7 international R&D projects, 7 R&TD projects in collaboration with the Portuguese Industry, and 22 national R&D projects.
She (co)authored about 200 articles published in international journals with impact factor (h-index: 42 - Scopus ID 7007053747) and 40 book chapters in international publishers (Elsevier, Springer, etc.). She has been also serving as Editor of several peer-reviewed journals (with impact factor) and books in international publishers.
Simone Morais has been included in the Stanford University publicly available databases of the top 2% most-cited scientists (September 2022 and August 2021 data-updates).
