Career Trajectory
Bio
I have always been interested in science with particular attention to the environmental impact of our society, mostly due to the utilization of fossil fuels. For these reasons, my path first as a student and then as a researcher has been focused on the role of hydrogen as a carrier for energy conversion.
I received both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Material Science and Engineering at the University of Genoa (UNIGE). Both theses where related to metallic interconnects for SOFCs. Part of my bachelor thesis consisted of an internship at Aperam S.A. (Isbergues, Fr), where I worked on the oxidation behaviour of ferritic stainless steels at high temperature. On the other hand, my master’s thesis, carried out entirely at UNIGE, was focused on the deposition and characterization of sol-gel coatings to suppress corrosion in interconnects.
To improve my know-how about ceramics and high temperature electrolysers and fuel cells, I decided to move to Barcelona (Spain) aiming to work for the group of prof. Albert Tarancón, an internationally recognized expert in the field of ceramics, advanced manufacturing and SOECs. After a short stage, I started my PhD at the Catalan Institute for Energy Research (IREC) and with the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB) in the Nanoionics and Fuel Cells group. In 2021 I defended my thesis with the title “Advanced strategies for Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells”. My work at IREC was focused on the utilization of hybrid additive manufacturing techniques (e.g., robocasting and inkjet printing) to produce SOEC devices, reducing time and manufacturing costs. Moreover, I was dedicated to the development of nanocomposites for electrodes of SOEC devices, aiming to improve their performance and durability.
After the PhD, I started to work as a postdoctoral researcher at IREC, in the Nanoionics and Fuel Cell group, on the formulation of slurries with innovative materials for 3D printing by Stereolithography (SLA). During my first postdoc, I increase my experience on advance fabrication of ceramics for complex shaped devices via 3D printing.
I changed research group and country for a new post-Doc aiming to enrich my background in the field of SOFC/SOEC. From 16/05/2022, I started a postdoc position at the Polytechnic University of Turin (POLITO) focused on the deposition of glass-ceramic sealants for energy conversion devices (i.e., high temperature electrolysers and batteries) and the development of a pilot plant for the recycling and reutilization of functional ceramics materials for SOFCs.
