Bio
Dr. Simon Winberg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Cape Town (UCT). He completed his MSc at the University of Tennessee. He worked in the embedded systems industry in both South Africa and in the USA prior to embarking on his PhD studies at UCT and subsequently becoming an academic staff member at UCT. His research areas are embedded systems, including using Hardware Description Language (HDL) and Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) development. Applications involving high-speed sampling and digital signal processing, related to radar and radio systems and radio astronomy. He also has understanding and supervision experience in machine learning, image processing, designing software frameworks and engineering education.
