Silvia Serranti

Silvia Serranti is currently an Assistant Professor with the Department of Chemical Materials Environment Engineering (DICMA), Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering, Sapienza-University of Rome. She is a Ph.D. Geologist and has been working for 15 years with the Raw Materials Unit, DICMA. Her research activity is related to the field of primary and secondary raw materials characterization and valorization, and is documented by more than 100 scientific papers published in international journals and in conference proceedings and by participating in ten research projects financed by the European Union. Her main interest topics include the study of particulate solids, with reference to their dimensional, morphological, and morphometrical attributes and physical-chemical characteristics; identification of objects using pattern recognition techniques based on image analysis; innovative procedures for characterization, recognition, classification, and sorting of primary and secondary raw materials by hyperspectral imaging techniques; the development of sensing methodologies for on-line sorting of different materials and/or quality control of industrial processes and final products; airborne dust measurement and characterization; froth flotation monitoring in industrial plants by digital image processing; and satellite-image-based strategies to evaluate the impact of dismissed mine sites.
