Bio
Silvia Marín, PhD in biomedicine, is associate professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biomedicine at University of Barcelona and member of the Institute of Biomedicine of University of Barcelona (IBUB). She also belongs to the CIBER of hepatic and digestive illnesses (CIBERehd) (CB17/04/00023). She is post-doctoral researcher at the research group Integrative Systems Biology, Metabolomics and Cancer, at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biomedicine at University of Barcelona, and is also the researcher in charge of the metabolomics platform managed by this research group. Dr. Marin main research field is centered in the study of metabolic adaptations suffered by cells as a response to different stimuli and in the development of new experimental tools to study metabolic flux maps. In the last years, she has focused her research interests in the application of these tools to analyze the metabolic reprogramming suffered by tumor cells as an adaptive response to drug therapy, drug resistance development, metastasis and other processes involved in tumor cell growth and expansion.
In total, Dr Marin has published a total of 46 indexed articles and 2 book chapters in specialized journals in biochemistry, oncology and computational biology. Her research has been funded by nationals and internationals research agencies, highlighting her role as co-PI in two European initiatives: one funded by Epigenesys (EC-funded research initiative) and the current project TubInTrain (a Marie-Curie training network initiative funded by the European Commission). Dr. Marin has also participated in several contracts with companies and well-known recognized international institutions (such as the Mayo Clinic and the Duke University), being the co-PI of 3 of these contracts. Moreover, she has patented (together with other researchers) the combined use of a CDK4/6 inhibitor with a glutaminase inhibitor as a cancer treatment.
