Bio
As a researcher with a Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology-bioinformatics, my research interests are mainly focused on single-cell data analysis and deep learning in the field of computational biology and biomedical data mining. Throughout my career, I have gained experience in data analysis, particularly in transcriptomics. I have worked as a research fellow at both La Sapienza University in Rome and the University of Pisa, where I currently contributing to the international collaboration of the SPARK project. During my Ph.D., I developed a single-cell data analysis package, COTAN, which is now available through Bioconductor, and I am its official maintainer responsible for its ongoing development and support. I have also been a co-advisor for a master's thesis in informatics, which focused on the COTAN project. My education includes a diploma from Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa and a Master's degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Pisa, where I expanded my theoretical knowledge by completing two fundamental exams from the Computer Science degree to move toward computational biology.
Aside from my research work, I have also gained experience in teaching at both middle and high school levels, as well as in universities. I have employed various pedagogical techniques to effectively deliver instruction, such as the flipped classroom approach, cooperative learning, multi-modal instruction, and the scientific inquiry model. I have taught courses on single-cell data analysis and molecular biology at various universities and invited events, including Pisa University and the Golinelli Foundation in Bologna. Moreover, I have been invited to present the COTAN project at conferences such as BioC2022, the Bioconductor conference, and the lab retreat of Professor Dario Valenzano's research group at the Leibniz Institute on Aging.
In addition to my teaching and research work, I have attended several conferences, such as the SMPGD2023 and SMPGD2020, as well as a Machine Learning Crash Course in Genoa. I have also completed an advanced course on Version Control with Git and Reinforcement Learning. My work has been recognized with a presentation of a poster regarding the COTAN project at the Gordon Research Conference, which I could not attend due to COVID-19.
