个人简介
Shui Qing Ye, MD, PhD, is currently The Chairman and Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Health Informatics, University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine at Kansas City, The William R. Brown/Missouri Endowed Chair in Medical Genetics and Molecular Medicine at The Children’s Mercy Hospital (CMH), UMKC and Professor in THe Division of Cell Biology and Biophysics, UMKC School of Biological Sciences. From 2010 to 2017, He had been the Director in the Division of Experimental and Translational Genetics and the Director in the Core of Genetic Research at The Children’s Mercy Hospital, UMKC. Dr. Ye completed his medical education from Wuhan University School of Medicine, China and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, USA. Dr. Ye’s academic trajectory had been evolved from an Assistant Professor in Johns Hopkins University followed by an Associate Professorship in University of Chicago to a tenured Full Professor in University of Missouri at Columbia before coming to Kansas City to take up various positions in CMH and UMKC since June 1, 2010.
Dr. Ye has been engaged in biomedical researches for more than 25 years with experience as Principal Investigators in NIH funded R01 or Pharmaceutical company sponsored research projects as well as Co-Investigators in NIH-funded RO1, SCCOR, PPG, and private foundation fundings. He has served as a grant reviewer for NIH, Department of Defense, and American Heart Association. He is a current member in American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Heart Association and American Thoracic Society. He has been a member of the Editorial Boards for Am J Mol Biol, ISRN Pulmonology, and World Journal of Biological Chemistry and participated the peer-review process for a number of journals. Dr. Ye also had taken a helm as the Director, Gene Expression Profiling Core in Center of Translational Respiratory Medicine in Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from 2001 to 2005 and the Director, Molecular Resource Core in a NIH funded Program Project Grant on Lung Endothelial Pathobiology in University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine from 2005 to 2007. Dr. Ye edited a book entitled "Bioinformatics-A Practical Approach", which was published by CRC Press (www.crepress.com). This book enjoys a rave review by covering most translational bioinformatics topics with 25 expert contributing authors from nine different world-class institutions of six different countries. Dr Ye also edited another book entitled " Big Data Analysis for Bioinformatics and Biomedical Discoveries", which was again published by CRC Press in 2016.
Our current and growing research interests cover three major areas: 1.To apply Translational Bioinformatics to leverage big data in omics and electronic medical records to make new biological discoveries and gain new unifying global biological insights, which may lead to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic targets as well as precise and individualized treatment for human diseases. 2. To investigate Nicotinamide Phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT, also called pre-B-cell colony enhancing factor or visfatin) in the human physiology and pathology such as role of NAMPT in acute respiratory distress syndrome, arthritis, cancer, drug induced liver toxicity. 3. To dissect underlying molecular mechanism of some single nucleotide polymorphisms implicated in the pathogenesis of diarrhea using CRISPR-Cas tool, cell and mouse models.
