Ryan Au Yeung obtained his Bachelor of Science (Biology) in 2007 and Master of Public Health with Distinction in 2008 from the University of Hong Kong, and PhD in 2012 from the School of Public Health, the University of Hong Kong. His main research interests are the health effects of alcohol use at moderate levels, risk factors of cardiovascular diseases, and causal inferences using different methodological approaches, in particular instrumental variable analysis using genetic instruments (Mendelian randomization design). He currently holds research grants related to the use of Mendelian randomization to ascertain the causal role of risk factors in cardiovascular diseases and was awarded the Health and Medical Research Fund Research Fellowship on Mendelian randomization in 2016. He teaches Advanced Epidemiological Methods I (CMED6030) of the Master of Public Health programme at the University of Hong Kong. He is a reviewer for international peer-reviewed journals including British Medical Journal, American Journal of Epidemiology, Journal of American Geriatrics Society, and Scientific Report; and a grant reviewer for the Veni programme under the Netherlands Organization for Health Research and Development. He was a visiting fellow at the Department of Epidemiology, Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University at the United States of America from October, 2014 to January, 2015.
