My long-term research interests involve the application of cutting-edge technologies using stem cells as an experimental model to better understand neurological diseases. My academic area of expertise is related to neurological disorders, neuroproteomics, next-generation sequencing, liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, and computational analysis of mass spectrometry data, stem cell, brain microvascular endothelial cells, neurons, and microglia differentiation. I am passionate about neuroscience. While obtaining my Master’s degree, I worked on next-generation sequencing applications for the analysis of rare and de novo mutations in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from multiple sclerosis patients. Our work looked at the screening of mutations in 8 family trios composed of the mother-father-MS patients, by exome sequencing analysis. This work was published in The Pharmacogenomics Journal. For my Ph.D., I have moved into the fields of proteomics using label-free quantitative shotgun mass-spectrometry approaches to discover proteins related to response effectiveness in the blood plasma of schizophrenia patients, and stem cell-derived brain cells through a scholarship to Germany, where I had the opportunity to learn about brain microvascular endothelial and neuronal cell differentiation methodologies under Dr. Marco Metzger and. Dr. Dan Rujescu, they are internationally recognized leaders in the field of modeling blood-brain barrier, led by Antje Appelt-Menzel and Psychiatry disorders respectively. My postdoctoral fellow aim is to characterize pluripotent stem cell-derived microglia from 21 trisomy patients, using cutting edge mass spectrometry and next-generation sequencing-based technologies.
