BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Shalini Dhyani works as a Scientist in Environmental Impact and Risk Assessment Division of National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI), India. Dr. Dhyani is ardent and trained ecologist with extensive work experience on forest biodiversity & terrestrial ecology in Western Himalayas; Central India, Gujarat and Western Ghats. She is gold medalist from Forest Research Institute Dehradun with a PG Diploma in Biodiversity Conservation and PhD in Forest Ecology and Environment. She is Lead Author for IPBES for regional assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem services in Asia Pacific. She is Co-Lead for Youth Professional Team of IUCN Commission for Ecosystem Management and Convener for IUCN-Intergenerational Partnerships for Sustainability. For her extensive and impressive research and scientific publications on Botany and Forestry in Indian Himalayan Region she was awarded “IUCN-CEM Chair Young Professional Award” at World Parks Congress 2014 in Sydney, Australia. She was selected among 100 women for their exceptional work in Asia by Asian Rural Women's Coalition (ARWC), Malaysia for her work on Fodder Bank to reduce pressure from forests of Himalayas. Her work on Fodder Bank has also been selected among 10 best case studies of SAARC countries for sustainable forest management in mountains. She has recently developed an interactive Biodiversity Portal on the lines of Aichi Biodiversity Targets, 2010 for CSIR-NEERI urban forests. She is recipient of various national as well as international financial grants FAO, UNEP, IUCN, UNU, European Union-LEANES, DST are to name a few. Dr. Dhyani has her more than 12 research papers addressing a variety of Biodiversity and Conservation issues in peer reviewed international Journal, 4 in National Journals, 6 book chapters, 7 technical reports and more than 25 popular articles to her credit. She is a frequent blogger and has contributed substantially through her variety of popular articles for biodiversity conservation & awareness. She has been LEAD Climate Change Fellow funded by British High Commission and LEAD India.
