个人简介
I am the Director for Nutrition, Health and Food Security Impact Area Platform of the CGIAR, and presently based in Washington, D.C. I was previously the Global Lead for Nutrition and Public Health at WorldFish, Penang, Malaysia. My work focuses on nutrition-sensitive aquatic food systems, in particular, the potential of increased production and consumption of nutrient-rich small fish in combating and preventing vitamin and mineral deficiencies in low- and middle-income countries. I work with developing and testing fish-based products for women and children in the first 1,000 days of life. These products can improve dietary diversity and supply multiple highly bioavailable nutrients that are essential for the nutrition and health of women and optimal growth, development and cognition in children. I also play a pivotal role in promoting the agenda of aquatic foods for nourishing nations as well as the importance of aquatic food systems in contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in many international, regional and national fora.
In 2021, I was awarded the World Food Prize in recognition of my ground-breaking research, critical insights and landmark innovations in developing holistic, nutrition-sensitive approaches to aquatic food systems. Similarly, I was awarded the 2021 Arrell Global Food Innovation Award for research innovation in developing and advancing nutrition-sensitive aquatic food systems approaches for food and nutrition security, income and livelihoods
I am a member of the Steering Committee of the High Level Panel of Experts on Food Security and Nutrition (HLPE) of the United Nations Committee on World Food Security (CFS), and member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub. I was previously the Vice Chair for UN Food Systems Summit 2021: Action Track 4 - Advance Equitable Livelihoods, and a Food Systems Champion.
In 2022, I was appointed as co-chair of the EAT-Lancet 2.0 Commission. I was also awarded Honorary Doctorates from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and The University of West Indies (UWI).
