My undergraduate education was in Zoology with a focus on marine invertebrates at the University of Barcelona –UB– (1996–2000). I then started working as a research assistant at the Center of Advanced Studies of Blanes –CEAB– where I worked in marine benthic ecology and polychaete taxonomy under the supervision of Dr. Rafael Sarda. In 2009 I obtained a Master’s degree on Biodiversity at the UB. During my PhD, supervised by Dr. Conxita Avila, I specialized in Antarctic benthic invertebrate ecology and systematics (2009–2012). In 2012–2015, as a postdoctoral researcher at the UB, I developed my projects using molecular tools to address evolutionary questions in several invertebrate groups, including polychaetes, nemerteans, cnidarians and echinoderms. In 2015 I moved to the Natural History Museum of London (NHM) to work as a postdoctoral research assistant within the frame of the MIDAS project (EU-funded project) under the supervision of Drs. Adrian Glover and Gordon Paterson. In this project I worked on the biogeography and genetic connectivity of marine abyssal invertebrates of the Central Pacific. I currently hold a postdoctoral research assistant contract within the frame of the SponGES project (EU-funded project) under the supervision of Dr. Ana Riesgo. In this project I am working on the biogeography and genetic connectivity of deep-water sponges from the North Atlantic using Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms.
