Bio
Dr. Molina-Murillo is a forest engineer and faculty member of the Universidad Nacional (UNA), Costa Rica. He is focused on the integration between the environment and socioeconomic activities for sustainable development and advancement of the bioeconomy. Extensive work experience that includes the National Forestry Office of Costa Rica, Boston University, the University of Minnesota, the 3M™ Corporation in the USA, UNA, and the University of Costa Rica, and in multiple national and international networks and organizations, where he has participated as a researcher, journal editor, consultant, professor, presenter, adviser, board member, among others. Besides his forestry engineer degree from UNA, he holds a master's and doctorate from the University of Minnesota, the first in Commerce with an emphasis on forest products and the last in Economics and natural resource management. He has carried out multiple research projects and consultancies published in international scientific journals, and presented at national and international events in America, Africa and Europe. Currently, Dr. Molina is the Editor-in-chief of the Tropical Journal of Environmental Sciences and Ambientico Magazine. He also is member of the Costa Rica´s National REDD+ strategy follow-up Committee, board member of Neotropical Foundation, and past member of the board of directors of the Mesoamerican and Caribbean Society of Ecological Economics, of the National Consultative Committee of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy; and founding member of the Costa Rican Network of local governments against climate change (Red-CGLACC). He was also a member of the Costa Rica´s Committee of Scientific Authorities of the CITES convention. Among key recognitions outstand the 2007 Best Doctoral Dissertation Award of the Organizations and the Natural Environment Division of the Academy of Management, and most recently, recipient of the 2014 MIT´s Climate CoLab award on Adaptation to Climate Change.
