In 2017 I obtained the Associate Researcher permanent position at the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET, Argentina). Since then, I have focused on setting up my research group with independent funding and novel research topics distinct from my doctoral and postdoctoral stages/studies. Currently, I have i) the recognition as an independent research group and consequently my own space at the Institute of Chemistry, Physics of Materials, Environment and Energy (INQUIMAE); ii) the direction/co-direction of four PhD students who work on the main research topics of my lab; iii) several national and international grants as PI; iv) the position of Technical Manager of the agreement between FCEN-UBA and the Association of Cosmetic Chemists (AAQA), v) the position of Coordinator of the Program for the Promotion of the Public Production of Drugs at FCEN (PPM-Exactas) & Member of the Executive Committee of the National Agency of Public Laboratories (ANLAP), and vi) the consolidation of a research line in Structural Chemistry, especially studying structure-property relationship, that combines the use and development of theoretical and experimental techniques, as evidenced, among other considerations, by the volume and prominence of publications and patents as well as the human resources formed through the years.
Furthermore, I have been a professor committed to academic activities uninterrupted since 2009. The teaching activities are developed in the Inorganic, Analytical and Physical Chemistry Department (DQIAyQF) of the FCEN, UBA. Since 2016, I have created and offered the courses ''Crystallography: Fundamentals and Applications'' and ``Crystallography Complements: Resolution of Small Molecules``. In addition, since 2018, to promote activities that stimulate the link with professionals from related areas who work outside the academia and in the productive sector, I have created and dictated the Update Program: "Structural characterization and analysis of properties of crystalline solids: polymorphs, solvates, cocrystals and salts".
Also, I have contributed substantially to the training of human resources: I have directed/co-directed two doctoral theses and five MSc. theses. Also, in the last 10 years at FCEN-UBA, the number of university students starting Chemistry has decreased (not so in other STEM fields, which have even increased their enrollment). Therefore, it is necessary to face a plan to revert this situation as soon as possible. In this context, I have actively collaborated in two complementary aspects. On the one hand, to outreach Chemistry closer to high school students in a friendly way, and on the other hand, to support university students to prevent them from dropping out. It is interesting to mention that three of the current PhD students have previously carried out under my supervision, short research projects under advanced undergraduate student programs/scholarships. Then, I became a founder member of the Organizing Committee of the Annual Crystal Growth Competition for High Schools in Argentina which has been carried out annually since 2014. It is an activity aimed at middle school students from all over our vast country.
Moreover, since 2018, I have been Responsible for the INQUIMAE/CONICET X-ray Powder Diffraction Laboratory where I performed more than two hundred High-Level Technological Services (STAN, CONICET). STAN are activities, such as testing, analysis, consulting, and institutional advisory services, with institutions - public or private - and/or companies. Finally, I currently serve as a Vice Secretary of Research of the FCEN, University of Buenos Aires (UBA). This position seeks to establish institutional networks to promote research, linkage, and technology transfer, as well as to build links with the productive sector.
Since I started my scientific career in 2005, I have published more than 70 papers and 5 book chapters, all in international peer-reviewed high-impact journals, which according to SCOPUS have received 1070 citations, resulting in an h-index of 14. I am also the corresponding or co-corresponding author of seven of these papers and two PCT patents.
