Bio
I have Ph.D. in Biosciences (Zoology) from Microbiology research lab, School of Biosciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, India under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Jyothis Mathew and Dr. Radhakrishnan E.K. At Mahatma Gandhi University, I gained exposure in probiotics, fish biology/nutrition, nanobiotechnology and antimicrobial, and anti-biofilm technology development. As a researcher, I was very fascinated about the microbial communities associated with animals especially fish. During my M.Sc., I chose fish as a model organism to work with and studied the dietary effect of curcumin (https://doi.org/10.1007/s10499-016-9984-1) on growth and development. Later on, my Ph.D. research was on the topic “Bioactive potentials of bacteria from freshwater fish and their application as biocontrol agents in fish disease”. I have isolated potential gut bacteria from the fish and developed as probiotic organisms. The biofilm forming efficacy and improvement of growth, antioxidant, and immunity were major attractions of the isolated novel bacteria. During my research period, I have filed a patent (TEMP/E-1/43792/2019-CHE, Ref. No: 201941041355) for the formulation of probiotic fish feed and published several research papers regarding probiotic applications of beneficial bacteria, antimicrobial activity of probiotics, biological synthesis and applications of nanoparticles, etc in several referred journals (17 articles).
As a researcher, I have trained in different areas of Microbiology as well as used several animal models systems such as fish and rats in my studies. During my research carrier, I have trained in various basic and advanced laboratory techniques including, SPSS software and skills in advanced Excel. I earned commendations for the quality of my research including awards and grants. My academic credentials include B.Sc. in Zoology with a merit scholarship and M.Sc. in Animal Science (Zoology) with merit scholarship (Second rank holder) followed by Ph.D with Junior and senior research fellowship
