Scott Chambers is a Senior Researcher within the Environmental Research Theme of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO). He specializes in making and interpreting high-sensitivity atmospheric Radon-222 measurements with a focus on improving understanding of anthropogenic effects on atmospheric pollution in both urban and remote environments. Scott Chambers co-leads projects and international collaborations that aim to characterize climate and pollution variability within urban environments, and the transport of pollutants to more pristine remote areas like the Southern Ocean and Antarctica. He has extensive skills in developing and implementing novel radon-based techniques to investigate atmospheric transport and mixing from local to hemispheric scales, and using high-quality atmospheric radon observations to better characterise long-term changes in regional-to-hemispheric concentrations of greenhouse gases at WMO GAW “baseline” monitoring stations. Scott Chambers holds a PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry from the Flinders University of South Australia, for which he investigated the atmospheric effects of anthropogenic disturbance of native bushland for agricultural purposes. He joined ANSTO in May 2000 after completing post-doctoral research at the University of California Berkeley and University of Alaska Fairbanks, where he studied the effects of natural disturbance (by wildfire) on Boreal Forest ecosystems of Alaska, Siberia and Canada.
