Bio
Saul B. Gelfand received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambrige, in 1987.
Previously, he was with Scientific Systems, Inc., Cambridge, and Bolt Beranek and Newman, Inc., Cambridge, where he worked on multitarget detection and tracking problems in sonar signal processing. Since 1987, he has been with Electrical and Computer Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, where he is a Professor. His major contributions lie in the formulation and analysis of recursive algorithms for detection, estimation, filtering, and optimization of stochastic systems. His research is supported by the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Army Research Office, Thomson Multimedia, and Lucent Technologies.
Prof. Gelfand has previously served as an Associate Editor for Equalization for the IEEE Transactions on Communications and Chair of the Communications Theory Symposium at the 2000 IEEE International Conference on Communication.
