Bio
I am Director of Pulmonary Pathology at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH, and Associate Editor for the American Journal of Clinical Pathology and Modern Pathology. I attended medical school in India and completed a pathology residency at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (New Delhi), followed by a second pathology residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University (Syracuse, NY). After a pulmonary pathology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN), I was recruited back to Syracuse and stayed on as faculty for next 6 years, rising to the rank of tenured Associate Professor in 2011. In 2013, I joined the Department of Pathology at the Cleveland Clinic, a subspecialized practice that accessions nearly 200,000 surgical pathology cases a year. My interests include interstitial lung disease, granulomatous diseases, mycobacterial/fungal infections, lung cancer, mesothelioma and thymic tumors. The lung pathology service supports a large group of interstitial lung disease pulmonologists and several busy thoracic surgeons. The lung transplant service is one of the busiest in the world. I have authored more than 125 publications in peer-reviewed journals, 42 of which are first-authored. I am also the sole author of a lung pathology textbook published by Cambridge University Press in 2016. My studies have been published in the American Journal of Surgical Pathology, Thorax, Chest, the Journal of Thoracic Oncology, Human Pathology and Modern Pathology. I teach medical students, residents and fellows. In 2011, I was invited to join the faculty of the prestigious USCAP Long Course in Pulmonary Pathology. I have served on the abstract review committee for USCAP and CAP for several years, moderated platform sessions at USCAP, and taught a USCAP Short Course. I am a section editor for the Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. In recent years, I have pioneered the use of social media for teaching lung pathology globally, and first authored a landmark study that led to FDA approval for whole slide imaging for primary diagnosis in surgical pathology in the United States.
