Bio
I am an economist in the World Bank’s Development Research Group. I received a B.A.(Magna Cum Laude) and M.A.(Hons) in Economics from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia, and a Ph.D. in Economics from UCLA. Prior to joining the World Bank, I spent five years as an Assistant Professor of Economics at the Marshall School of Business of the University of Southern California. I am also a IZA research fellow, a CEGA faculty affiliate, a faculty member of the Schaeffer Center for Health and Economics Policy, and a research fellow at the Center for Economic and Social Research at the University of Southern California.
My research explores the effects of forced migration within hosting economies and the role of public policies and humanitarian interventions in supporting migrants and their hosting communities. I also have ongoing work studying how firms’ decisions change with economic and political shocks and examining the consequences of violence and conflict in Latin America. My articles have been published in journals such as the Journal of Labor Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Human Resources, and other leading development journals.
