Dr. Serpentini obtained her degree in Psychology from the University of Padova, in Italy (1999) with a thesis on the development of a psycho-educational interventions for melanoma patients; later she completed postgraduate courses in Health Promotion (University of Siena – University of Padova), Bereavement Support (University of Bologna) and Bioethics (University of Padua). Subsequently, she obtained an international master’s degree (University of Padova-Italy, Karolinska Institute-Sweden, University of Oporto-Portugal, University Paris XII-France) in Health Promotion and Community Protection, supported by the World Health Organization, and a master’s degree in Palliative Care (University of Bologna). She qualified in 2004 as a clinical psychologist-psychotherapist and she has continued to practice as a clinical psychologist, in addition to conducting research in psycho-oncology and palliative care.
From 1999 to 2010 she obtained several fellowships from the University-Hospital of Padova to evaluate the psychological well-being, the quality of life, and the psychosocial impact of genetic risk in cancer patients. From 2002 to February 2017 she has been employed in the Hospital of Bassano del Grappa (Vicenza, Italy) as clinical psychologist in oncology and palliative care. In addition, since 2012 she has been a research consultant in the Veneto Institute of Oncology IOV – IRCCS, Padua, Italy. From February 2017 Dr. Serpentini has a full-time position as clinical psychologist-psycho-oncologist, with also research commitments, referent for the Breast Cancer Unit in the Psycho-Oncology Unit of the Veneto Institute of Oncology IOV – IRCCS, Padua, Italy. Finally, since 2001 she is a contract professor in the University of Padova.
Dr. Serpentini's main areas of interest are the following: quality of life, psychological well-being, spiritual well-being, ethics, psychosocial impact of genetic risk and genetic testing, and psychosocial distress in patients with cancer and their families.
Dr. Serpentini visited several hospitals and cancer centres in the world (Australia, Canada, England, France, Israel, Portugal, Sweden, USA, Japan, USA).
Dr. Serpentini has numerous publications and she has given over 100 invited lectures.
In 2014 Dr. Serpentini received a national award from the University of Bologna for excellence in research. Since 2016 she is member of the Bioethical Committee of Veneto Region. Dr. Serpentini is active member of the International Psycho-Oncology Society (IPOS), of the Italian Society of Psycho-Oncology (SIPO) and the Italian Society of Palliative Care (SICP); since 2012 she's an active member of the EORTC Quality of Life Group.
