Bio
My research program aims to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that allow specific plants to thrive under climate stress conditions such as water scarcity, temperature extremes, poor nutrition, and increased CO2. The goal is to change crop plants to make them more productive in harsh climates, thereby improving and/or increasing yield and quality. The ultimate intellectual goal is to understand total plant function from the cellular, whole plant, and ecosystem levels under extreme abiotic stress. This objective is pursued by integrating biochemistry, genetic, and genomic techniques with a comprehensive knowledge of plant physiology and agronomy. I received funding not only from the government and industry, but also from commercial businesses. My work is frequently cited (over 5,800 citations, an H-index of over 42: Google Scholar).
