Patents: 22. One of them with sold to “First Jet International LTD” (€100k). Patent ES2525114 licensed to “Chameleon Sensors S.L.”. Patent ES2680718 licensed to "50 Dollar Drafting Inc." Patent Nº20211000037439 in collaboration with RAIZ (Instituto de investigação da Floresta e do Papel)
After obtaining my Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of Burgos (2009), I joined as a pre-doctoral fellow and developed my Master and PhD in Advanced Chemistry in 2009 and 2014, respectively. Between 2015 and 2021 I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Burgos, and since May 2021 I work at the Macromolecules Group of the University of Coimbra (Portugal). In 2015, I founded the spin-off company "Chameleon Sensors SL". Creating a company helped me get to know the industrial and commercial world closely, but mainly to direct my research and the group towards real solutions for the real world. The creation of the company and the defence of my thesis led me to achieve different awards and recognitions in several programs. Stand out the second prize in the program "Campus Emprendedor 2014", the first prize from the RSEQ and RSEF for the best National doctoral thesis of 2014, and the Special Mention of the Forum Cross-border University Technologies of the year 2019, held in Braganza (Portugal). As a senior post-doc, I have continued reaching new recognitions for my research, as and the finalist position in the "CP Food Innovation Challenge" of the year 2020, held in Bangkok (Thailand), and the last international award granted by Sensors magazine "Sensors 2021 Travel Award in Chemical Sensors".
My stays at the European Space Agency (ESA, Noordwijk, Holland, 2014), and at the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Miguel Hernández University (Elche, Spain, 2016) have helped me to learn different ways of working, optimizing my way of doing research. In the last 2 years, I have participated in the writing of 7 European calls (5 Research and Innovation actions, 1 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action, and 2 ERC Starting Grant), and I have achieved 3 research projects (funded with more than €100k) of which I am the principal investigator. I consider the most relevant the one financed by the La Caixa Foundation, which has allowed me to combining teaching and research tasks. These stays have been key to making more and better contributions in the field of polymer chemistry. I have published 1 full book (Smart Polymers, De Gruyter) , and 45 articles in the best magazines of its category (82% in the 1st quartile, 47% in the 1st decile), of which I am the corresponding author of the last 10. Several are in the corresponding catalogue's first position, both specific to polymers and materials and general chemistry. In recent years, the CSR magazine Chemistry World has written several reports on two of my articles. The last one at the end of 2016 entitled "Glowing polymer highlights mercury in fish" highlights our research's novelty and quality. Besides, RSC itself has used another article for its university-level chemistry teaching website. I have always been very committed to the protection of research results, and I have registered 22 patents, one of them sold First Jet International LTD (China), and another two licensed to Chameleon Sensors S.L. (Spain) and 50 Dollar Drafting Inc. (Canada). Additionally, I have registered an application for smartphones aimed at detecting species of interest such as explosives, contaminants, targets with biomedical interest, etc. Since March 2017 I have been the scientific editor of the magazine "Chemosensors", an international magazine freely accessible and published quarterly by the MDPI editorial. I have supervised two doctoral theses and am currently directing another one. This helps me to continue improving my leadership skills and thus completing my teaching and researching skills.
