Bio
In the summer of 1965, after participation in a training course in Stockholm sponsored by UNESCO, Shozo visited Sune Bergström's laboratory in the Karolinska Institute to learn about the progress of prostaglandin (PG) research. Bengt Samuelsson, whom he met there, told him that PG was biosynthesized by the incorporation of molecular oxygen into 8, 11, 14-eicosatrienoic acid. It was the first fateful encounter with PG for Shozo. In Japan, Ono Pharmaceutical Co. hastened to develop PGs as medicines.
