A. Personal Statement
I have the expertise, leadership, training skills along with motivation required to successfully carry out the proposed research project. I have a broad background in tumor biology and radiation oncology, with specialization in cancer prevention and immunomodulation research. My current research includes study of immunomodulatory changes associated with use of different forms of energy treatments (such as radiation, focused ultrasound) along with chemo- and immunotherapeutics in different tumor models. Presently, as an associate research fellow, I have been working for establishing the background of the proposed research by optimizing effective treatment regimens for an effective tumor cure with a focus on immunepriming for systemic anti-tumor effects. The primary goal of these combination therapies is to break immune tolerance and increase the immunogenicity of tumor using a non-ablative physical energy such as RT and ultrasound, followed by primary tumor eradication by ablative therapies such as high dose RT/Chemo and immunotherapy. Recent research from out lab demonstrates that non-ablative ultrasound breaks immune tolerance and enhances the efficacy of RT or other therapies. In my previous research work, I substantially contributed in other projects, collaborated with other researchers resulting in several peer-reviewed publications from each project. These previous experiences provided me the platform to recognize and appreciate the importance of working as a team and how collaborative work approach meets a scientifically productive research plan.
