Bio
Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs Steven R. Bergmann, M.D., Ph.D., provides leadership and oversight for the Office of Faculty Affairs. The office is responsible for all aspects of faculty academic life in the School of Medicine including appointments, promotions, tenure, grievances, sabbaticals, and retirement. The office also assists faculty and chairs in navigating the academic system.
Before joining the University of Connecticut in April, 2014, Dr. Bergmann held faculty positions at Washington University, the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He was most recently the chief of the Thomas Killip Division of Cardiology at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, and vice chair of the Department of Medicine.
Dr. Bergmann received his undergraduate degree from George Washington University, his Ph.D. from Hahnemann Medical College, and his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis. His research interests include the use of positron emission tomography for the quantification of heart blood flow and metabolism, the evaluation and treatment of chest pain, cardiac stress testing, and evaluation of the efficacy of therapeutic interventions designed to mitigate myocardial dysfunction. Dr. Bergmann is also interested in the development of clinical pathways in improving patient care, decreasing hospital length of stay, and enhancing patient outcomes.
