Bio
Sónia Martins is a Psychologist, with a degree in Psychology from ISMAI (2001), with a Masters in Psychology - Specialization in Psychological Assessment, from FPCEUC (2008) and with a PhD in Gerontology, from the Universities of Porto and Aveiro (2014). As part of the Doctoral Program, she was a PhD Research Fellowship (SFRH / BD / 63154/2009) by the Foundation for Science and Technology/FCT (2010-2013). Subsequently (2015-2018), she was a Post-doctoral fellowship by FCT (SFRH/BPD/103306/2014), at the Center for Health Technology and Services Research (CINTESIS), integrated at the Faculty of Medicine of University of Porto (FMUP). She is currently an Integrated Member and Researcher in this research unit. Between February 2019 and September 2022, she was a researcher at the Department of Clinical Neurosciences and Mental Health at FMUP.
Her research interests are related to aging and mental health, dementia, delirium, depression, psychogerontology, clinical and health psychology, validation studies, mood disorders, family/caregivers and psychoeducational interventions. She is a member of the European Delirium Association (EDA) and the Portuguese Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology (SPGG).
Sónia Martins is currently Assistant Professor at Higher Institute of Social Service of Porto (ISSSP), teaching in the Course of Social Gerontology and coordinates the Master in Social Gerontology of this institution.
She collaborated (volunteer 2016-2018) in the Curricular Unit (CU) Psychiatry and Mental Health (Clinical Practice) of the 6th year - Integrated Master in Medicine (MIMED) of FMUP. She also collaborated in the CUs Mood Disorders and Geriatric Psychiatry of the Master in Psychiatry and Mental Health (since 2014), as well as in the CU Psychiatric Diseases of the Post-Graduate Course of Geriatrics (since 2014) at FMUP. Also collaborated in the teaching of the CU Mental Health in Elderly People of the Doctoral Program in Gerontology and Geriatrics of the Porto University/Aveiro University (2012-2017), in CU Psychopathology of the Aging in the Degree of Social Gerontology of the Higher Institute of Social Service of Porto/ISSSP (2018), as well as in the CU Dementia of the Master in Occupational Therapy and Mental Health of the Porto School of Health Technology/ESTSP (2013-2015).
