Bio
Steven M. Serkiz received the B.S. degrees in both chemistry and geology from Furman University, Greenville, SC, in 1985 and the Ph.D. degree in 1991 from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, with a Research Award from the Environmental Protection Agency.
He is currently a Senior Fellow Research Scientist at the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL), a Faculty Member in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and Associate Adjunct Professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering both at Clemson University. During his 17-year tenure at the Savannah River National Laboratory, he has primarily been involved in research surrounding interfacial and materials chemistries including: subsurface contaminant transport, wastewater treatment, high-level waste separations, nanomaterials development, and hydrogen gas storage. Before coming to SRNL, he was employed at Geoservices, Inc., an engineering consulting company in Atlanta, GA, and the National Bureau of Standards (now the National Institutes of Standards and Technology) in Gaithersburg, MD. He has over 30 peer-reviewed publications, 70 national and international conference presentations, and two U.S. patents in the areas of materials science, nanotechnology, surface chemistry, and waste treatment.
