Bio
Sang-Mae Lee received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from Pusan National University, Pusan, South Korea, in 1979, 1984, and 1987, respectively.
He currently serves as a Director of MEMS/NANO Fabrication Center (MNFC), Busan Techno-Park, Busan, South Korea. He was a Professor at Yonam College of Engineering, Chinju, South Korea, from 1988 to 1995. He has been a visiting scholar at The Ohio State University, in 1990 and 1992 on leave from Yonam College of Engineering. From 1995 to 1999, he conducted research at the University of Maryland, College Park, MD, USA, and the University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, Canada, where he developed optical fiber Bragg grating and silica-based planar waveguide grating sensors. He also developed the MEMS sensors at the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, OH, USA, from 1999 to 2001. He was also with Ciena Corporation from 2001 to 2002, where he was responsible for optical process development for optical test stations and WDM based optical system integration and test. He worked with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Maryland, to develop fiber Bragg grating sensors. He was also with Pusan National University, Pusan, South Korea, prior to joining MNFC. His research interests include fiber Bragg grating and waveguide based biosensors and smart structures, photonics, sensor demodulation, and multiplexed sensor system network. He has published many peer-reviewed journals and conferences in field of optical sensors, MEMS/NANO sensors, and mechanical engineering.
