He is the known scientist in physics of combustion and explosion, the author of over 800 scientific publications and 40 patents, the editor of over 50 books on various issues of combustion and explosion. His major scientific achievements are listed below:
He put forward and confirmed theoretically and experimentally a new concept of the origin and development of exothermic chemical reaction waves, including detonations, at reactive mixture self-ignition in the presence of various disturbances. He solved important problems on multistage oxidation of hydrocarbons in localized exothermic centers and on explosion development in spatial nonuniformities of reactants temperature and concentration.
He developed new methods in the theory of turbulent combustion and deflagration-to-detonation transition and put forward the theory of blast wave suppression by protective shields. He contributed to the study of the fundamental mechanisms of flame holding and blow off on the bluff bodies.
