Bio
Dr Salvador Hidalgo (B.Sc. and PhD. in Physics from UAB in 1986 and 1990, respectively; ORCID 0000-0002-8070-3499). He joined IMB-CNM in 1987, specializing on the development of silicon power devices and radiation detectors. In 1992 he got a permanent research position at CSIC, leading the IMB-CNM Reverse Engineering Team since 1999.
He is author of 88 publications in international SCI journals (63 of them in the first quartile), with an h-index of 18 and 1178 cites. Also, he has participated in 24 EU founded research projects (leading one, the EXFILES project), 43 funded by Spanish science and technology institutions (leading 9), 58 R&D industrial contracts (leading 34) and 14 patent applications (3 international, 11 national).
During the last years of his scientific career, he has been leading the work carried out at IMB-CNM to establish the technology processes needed for the fabrication of radiation detectors with integrated gain (LGAD) in its clean room. Also, he led the work to build a new radon detector in order to control the radon concentration in a building in collaboration with several national companies. He is currently member of the CERN CMS experiment and RD50 collaboration.
Furthermore, he leads the works to analyse and reconstruct the functionality of ICs using reverse engineering procedures, helping the industry to increase the quality of their products, as well as to guarantee the security of their electronic systems. Within this framework, the EU-funded EXFILES project is being developed. His experience in the security field allowed him to be member of the New Technologies Committee of the Spanish Institute for Strategic Studies from 2010 to 2020.
He has supervised 4 doctoral and 5 graduate theses. He has taught 35 training courses in the field of microelectronics and has received 7 best paper awards. In addition, he has 6 five-year and 5 six-year research periods recognized by CSIC and the Ministry of Science and Innovation, respectively.
