Bio
Silvio De Angelis has held research and management positions with numerous earthquake and volcano monitoring organizations, where he was involved in hazard assessment and the development of early-warning systems for eruptions and earthquakes. He is currently a Reader in geophysics with the University of Liverpool, Liverpool, U.K. His research encompasses interpretation and modeling of volcanic unrest using acoustic infrasound and seismic data, frequently complemented by excursions in other remote sensing disciplines of earth sciences. His work has provided the theoretical and practical foundations for the implementation of real-time eruption detection and monitoring systems at volcano observatories worldwide. His research interests include signal detection, characterization of seismic and acoustic source processes and signal propagation in volcanic environments, and assessment of sensor performances.
