Bio
Professor Aggarwal’s research interests are primarily in the area of combustion and spray processes. These processes involve fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, phase change and chemical reactions (depending upon the application). They are important in a variety of applications, including jet engine combustion, diesel engines, industrial burners, liquid-propellant rocket engines, alternative fuels, hazardous waste incineration, and other systems utilizing sprays. Current research includes the ignition and combustion of multi-component fuel droplets and sprays, turbulent spray combustion, direct numerical simulations of shear layers, partially premixed flame structure, transient combustion phenomenon including; flame-vortex interactions, passive/active control of two-phase processes, and emissions. The major objective of the research, which is both numerical and experimental, is to enhance understanding and to develop predictive capabilities for the phenomena of interest.
