Dr. Rumsfeld is an internationally recognized cardiovascular health services (outcomes) researcher, and a thought leader in healthcare innovation. His research has primarily centered on cardiovascular quality of care and outcomes, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), and the association between depression/mental health and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Rumsfeld is currently the Chief Innovation Officer for the American College of Cardiology, with a focus on digital health, advanced clinical analytics (big data / cognitive computing), and precision medicine. He is Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Previously, he was National Director of Cardiology for the US Veterans Health Administration (VA) and Director of the VA’s Clinical Assessment, Reporting, and Tracking (CART) Program, a national quality of care and patient safety program for the VA health system. In addition, he was previoiusly the Chief Science Officer for the American College of Cardiology’s (ACC) National Cardiovascular Data Registries (NCDR) and is past-Chair of the American Heart Association’s Quality of Care and Outcomes Research (QCOR) Scientific Council. Dr. Rumsfeld received his medical degree from the University of Chicago (1991) and doctoral degree in epidemiology from the University of Colorado (1999). He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at the University of California, San Francisco (1991–1994) and a cardiology fellowship at the University of Colorado (1995–1999).
