RUBÉN FRANCISCO GONZÁLEZ-LAREDO (RFGL)
Native from Durango, Mexico, RFGL got an Industrial Chemical Engineering (TecNM-Technological Institute of Durango) and Nuclear Engineering degrees (National Polytechnic Institute–IPN) as well as a Ph.D. in Forest and Natural Products Chemistry from Oregon State University (1993). During more than 30 years of professional career, has combined academic-scientific activities with administration and directive duties. This experience includes more than 20 different courses on Chemistry, Engineering, and Research Methods, topics taught at undergraduate and graduate levels; and directing the Durango State Council of Science and Technology (2001-2005). In the last twenty years has focused more on his scientific endeavor as a Research-Professor at TecNM/ITD, becoming reflected in more than 170 publications and research products, generating over 2500 citations, an h-index of 28 (Scopus), and according to Google Scholar Citations, about 4100 cites (h-index, 35; i10-index, 86).
Among his significant scientific accomplishments are the isolation of a dozen novel bioactive metabolites, mainly polyphenols, and the nutraceutical characterization of several regional products of plant origin such as common beans, oregano, pecan nut; and mesquite, guava, pine, and oak leaves. Also, he is studying natural biopolymers from Aloe and Opuntia as potential wall materials for the microencapsulation of active principles. RFGL has also promoted the first Doctoral Science program (Biochemical Engineering) and graduated its first Ph.D. student in the state of Durango (1998). For all the latter reasons, RFGL has been granted the Level III (top level) of the National Researchers System (SNI), which certifies and grants the productivity and excellence of Mexican scientists. RFGL has received the national award from the National Association of Engineering Schools (ANFEI) and has won the Durango State Science and Technology Award three times in 2008, 2012, and 2015. Currently, he is recognized as a top peer-reviewer from Publons.com
